Natchez, Mississippi and back...

I've been out of pocket for the last week or so and I'd like to explain.
Louie and I took a trip to Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez is like a time capsule from the days of hoop skirts, punkahs, and Old Paris China, among other pieces and parts of history. Natchez is home to many beautiful homes that once belonged to wealthy merchants and cotton planters.

Outside of Natchez is a town called Port Gibson where you will find, if looking, The Windsor Ruins about 12 miles away. They are on my top 10 list of all time places I've been. There is something very magical about driving through an old state road lined with trees dripping with Spanish moss and then with little to no effort "stumbling" upon these ruins. They only image they have of what the house was originally like is a drawing found in a journal that belonged to a Union Army soldier. The story is really interesting and sad as well. The result over 100 years later is an architectural delight.

Back to Natchez, Mississippi and to another of my favorite places is Longwood Plantation. This home is another architectural delight. It too has an interesting story. Longwood was never finished because the War Between the States broke out while it was under construction. Many of the workmen constructing the home were from the North and fled home at news of the war. To this day the home is unfinished with only the basement being complete. This is also one of my all time favorite places.

Now I don't want you to think that Natchez, Mississippi is full of houses that never were complete or burned down after. It just so happens that to be my taste in architecture I suppose. Besides, who doesn't like a good story?
There are plenty of houses to tour in Natchez that are in great repair and are furnished with fabulous period antiques. Here are a few:

There are many many more of these great old mansions but this is a great small example of some of the ones you can tour. Of course you know my favorites already.
We had a great time and I even managed to squeeze in some shopping and the squeeze it in Louie's car. It is sure nice to travel in a car rather than a box truck but it sure hinders buying.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my mini virtual tour of Natchez.

Sincerely,
Scarlett

2012 Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville

Last weekend was the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville. We started setting our booth up on Tuesday of last week. On Monday, we finally loaded out. The show is always so inspiring and is a great jump-start to spring. I'm sharing some pictures from our booth at the show.

I guess there is either a limit on how many photos I can post or I just can't figure out how to make it keep going. Oh well, I guess that's an excuse to post more pictures at a later time.
Thanks for looking.
Sincerely,
Scarlett

Art crawl with Haley Baker at Scarlett Scales Antiques

Well it's that time again, tonight is the Franklin Art Scene and we are one of the stops on this art crawl. Our featured artist this month is Haley Baker of The House Sparrow. She is a fun jewelry designer who uses all of our favorite vintage things to create her one of a kind jewelry. Here are some pictures of her work:

If you've never done the art crawl you're missing out. It is free and wine is served at all of the stops on the crawl. There also is a trolley that will deliver you from one stop to the next. (just in case you don't want to crawl) The wristband to ride the trolley is only $5 unlimited stops tonight.
Hope to see you tonight it's a great way to spend the evening in Franklin.
Sincerely,
Scarlett
