Look what Scarlett found at the Music Valley Antiques Market

These old ice cream chairs with the original pink seats are my favorite finds from the Music Valley Antiques Market over the weekend. I bought the set of four. I love the great surface on the iron, it is a great creamy white paint with a little bit of rust showing through. The cutest part other than the seats of course, is the foot rest. I think they will be a lovely addition to someones kitchen and they are the perfect counter height.

These old homework papers were a neat find from Pam and Gary at Country Meadows Antiques. The old handwriting is very cool. They were someone's Latin homework from the early 1900's. I didn't buy them but I think old papers like these is so interesting. I was trying to think of something really clever to do with them. Taking a picture of them was as clever as I got...
I love things in multiples. This huge ironstone bowl filled with old mother of pearl, bone, and other light hued buttons made me smile. Buttons are one of my weaknesses; I love them. Especially the carved mother of pearl and bone ones. These were in Carla and Calvin's booth from Jackson, TN

Also in their booth was this basket full of pool balls. Here again I love multiples! These are so fun because of all of the different colors. These had already sold but they still looked so good I had to get a picture. These too belonged to Carla and Calvin. They had a very nice booth.

The show was a great one. I went the night of the preview party and then went back on Sunday to check out the Tailgate show and to go back over the Music Valley show. It is always so fun to catch up with everyone and to meet new people. There are so many creative minds in this business it is just wonderful.

Also since I was not set up this time I got to hang out with my good friend Barb from Iowa. It was so nice to get to see her. She and I got to walk around and shop together. She bought me the cutest little flower frog I have ever seen. I will have to post a picture of it later. It is smaller than a dime. I haven't ever seen one like it. I want to put a picture in it. She is a sweetheart.

I am now in the process of rearranging the shop. I have some new pieces I bought at the show that went in the shop today. I will post pictures from the shop once we get it put together with all the new goodies. Until then...

Sincerely,
Scarlett

Piano keys and mother of pearl handles make me smile

It seems like I spend most of my time decorating my shop, my booths, and my clients houses. I love the act of decorating. I enjoy shopping and scouting to find exciting pieces. Yet somehow it seems like find myself running out of decorating juice when it comes to my own house. I come home and unwind and stare at my relatively blank walls and think yeah, this week I will do something about that. I tell myself that I am going to bring home whatever I am currently in love with at the shop but I never do. Usually when there is something at the shop that I am in love with, everyone else is too and it sells before I decide to bring it home. On occasion however, I do find something that actually never goes to the store and just comes straight home.

I bought the coolest piece at the Nashville Antiques and Garden Show from dealer Frank Jacobs. It is the keys from an old piano. He had it hanging in his booth and I just got so excited when I saw it. I thought that is it I am buying these piano keys and I'll hang them above my headboard. Here is a picture of them in Frank's booth at the show.

Frank can always put a great booth together. I love how he comes up with exciting pieces you are not necessarily expecting to see, like the piano keys. He also has a surprising way of using the unexpected to decorate with such as marshmallows and salt under cloches. He is great and definitely thinks outside the box or cloche...

Thank goodness he does think outside the box because just look at the new addition to my bedroom wall. This means one less bare wall in my house. That is something sure to put a smile on my face.
I also bought this set of carved mother of pearl handled knives and forks from Frank. Mother of pearl is one of my favorite things. It just makes me smile. This set in particular made me smile because of the unusual carved handles. They also have a pretty scroll design etched into the metal blades. This is something else I am keeping. I rarely keep anything anymore but if I am ever going to get my house finished and put together like I want, I must start keeping some of my favorite things. Besides I have a couple of sets of mother of pearl handled knives at the shop so it can't be all that bad to bring these home right?

Well, I can't wait until Thursday night because I am going to shop the Music Valley Antiques Show at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. The Tailgate show starts on Friday morning. In the past my father and I have set up at these shows but this year I am just going to shop. I miss not setting up but the shopping is always a blast as well as getting to see everyone. There are so many wonderful people in the antiques business. I love catching up with everyone. I will let you know what goodies I come up with from the shows. If I don't see you there...
Sincerely,
Scarlett

My booth at the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville

Wow, what a fun week. The show was beautiful and I had a blast. This was my first time to do this show and I met losts of new people. We were able to pull right up to the booth to unload. There is no real way to describe what it is like to drive a 16' Ryder truck into a building: you just have to try it yourself sometime. After the quick unload it only took a couple of days to unpack all the hundreds of pieces of smalls. I took everything from a large iron table with a concrete top to small mercury glass votives that sold for only 5.00 each.

I feel like having a variety of items ranging from small to large in price and in scale attributed to our success at the show. Among some of the booths set up there were Mark Morris, Mike and Jody Roberts of Roberts Antique Wicker, Frank Jacobs of Honour Hall, Breck Armstrong of Moss, and Andrew Gentile of Louisville, KY. All the dealers did such a great job with their booths and they all had their own unique look with loads of exciting finds.

I can't wait until next year to do this great show again. I am looking forward to seeing all my new customers here at the shop.

Sincerely,
Scarlett
