Some of the cutest ironstone ever

Look how cute these tiny square ironstone bowls are. I have never had any this small. And guess what I don't even have these anymore. They sold before I could even get this post up. Not complaining though. The cute little relish dish with crown shaped handles on the top of the stack, you guessed it, it's sold too!

This was a fun day of junking. Look how much fun Mike is having unloading his box truck. Isn't it funny how we get so excited about the back end of peoples trucks in this business?

I love this skinny little ledger. It is missing some of the pages but it is still really cool. We recently have gotten a big stack of these in at the shop.

I thought that this little white painted wicker trunk was so cute. I took a picture of it because I liked it. I should have just bought it because when I went back about 10 minutes later it was gone. Evidently someone else thought that it was cute too!

My friend Rachel came junking with me. She was prepared with a backpack. So of course I asked her to put stuff in there all day. Of, course most of the stuff I bought was too big and heavy to fit in that backpack!

These napkins are so pretty. They are nice and crisply starched. I love the monogram in fact I love monograms, it doesn't have to be my own but that would be awesome to find mine. In fact a lady purchased some mother of pearl handled forks from me that had her exact monogram on it! I love that!

This old metal suitcase is really cool. I love the stripes on it. I am always a little slow to purchase these because they occupy a lot of space in my small shop. I might put a little collection of them together. You know me and multiples, I LOVE THEM!

Speaking of multiples, look at all these pieces. Some of these are really, really, old. I didn't buy any but couldn't resist the urge to dig through the boxes.

This trunk has been made into a table. The base is made of iron. It is so cool. I love the monogram and number. Lately I have had been on black and white kick and this trunk fits right in with that.

I am in the process of recovering from the Main Street Festival, where we had a very successful show. Also I am trying to get ready for Brimfield. There is a lot of packing and preparing to do before we leave. I am so excited about going I just need a little recharging between now and then. Stay tuned for more fun finds. Dad just got back from PA with some outstanding finds!

Sincerely,
Scarlett

Packing for the Main Street Festival in Franklin this weekend

This weekend is the Main Street Festival in Franklin. This event is huge and there are thousands of people who come to see all the cool stuff there is to see at the festival. This is my first time to set up at the show. We are giving away a free item to the first 100 people who redeem the ticket we give them at the festival, at our shop. I am so excited that the weather is going to be pretty this weekend. We are planting sweet flowers in lots of our cool faux bois planters and birch covered buckets. The booth is going to be filled with jewelry from Lizzy Designs Jewelry as well as new jewelry. We just got in some really cool bags from the French company Murval. These bags are a big hit every year.
I will post pictures from the festival next week. This is going to be a blast.
Look how sweet this old ironstone tureen base looks with succulents planted inside. I just love ironstone. We have lots of new pieces of ironstone in stock at the shop now.

Check out these cool apothecary jars. The labels were never filled out. They are wonderful now as vases.

Come by our booth at the Main Street Festival this weekend. You will love our booth!

Back from Scott's in Atlanta

I went to the Scott's show this week in Atlanta with my friend Beth. She was up for the trip on last minute notice and was a very good sport. I took Ginger with me too and Beth got the pleasure of helping me take care of her. Lets just say ginger doesn't enjoy junkin the same way her mother does. So, thanks Beth for going on our adventure.

Evidently if you are going to skip a month in Atlanta as a dealer, April is it. Easter and tax time combined are more than some dealers are willing to put up with on a show weekend so they just take April off. That is understandable I guess everyone needs a break at some point. Although there were several empty booths I was still able to find some cool treasures. These great old cloudy mercury glass bottles were one of my favorite finds.
As you all know I am crazy for multiples and mother of pearl so these sterling banded m.o.p. knives had to come home with me.
These books are very pretty. They have a wonderful silver decorated cover with a lady design.
I am going to have a mirror put in this frame. It is made of concrete. It was made from a mold that had been cast from an old black forrest wood frame. I love the way this piece looks and I feel like it will look even better with a mirror in it.

This week Dad went up east to the auctions and he brought in some goodies. I will be posting pictures of what he got too.

Sincerely,
Scarlett

MULTIPLES, MULTIPLES, MULTIPLES

As many of you well know I have a fascination with multiples. You know, one of something is o.k. but well, when you have about a dozen of them they are awesome! I love to collect and assemble but I also just like to buy a collection of something. These pots were purchased from an importer who goes to China, India, and Europe buying whole containers of goodies. As you can imagine filling an entire 40 foot container of treasures, you'll probably encounter some multiples I'd say. So when I saw these great little pots I got, as you can imagine, very excited and scooped them up right away. They fascinated me because of the great wear they exhibit on the lids as though they were used every day. The surfaces on them are wonderful some have the old paint worn with age and others have the original varnish now crackled from years of being exposed to the heat and cold.
When I purchased them I thought they were for spice or something and didn't really understand the phrase he used to describe them. So, one day I did a little scoping around on the internet and found out they are Tika pots from India.
Tika pots were used to hold a decorative paint or make-up that would then be painted on the forehead of a person of the Hindu Faith. Understandably these pots would get lots of daily use and therefore wonderful wear from years of being held in one's hand.

Aside from the fact that now I know what they were originally used for, the construction is very nice also. They are made of wood that has been turned on a lathe. So, they started out as one piece of wood and have been turned and carved to become the shape they are now. They also were carved out some on the inside so that they could be used as a container to store the red substance to paint on the forehead.
In Americana they would be called wonderful early treenware and would cost you at least a hundred bucks.
These lovely tika pots can be purchased from us for $32 each.

Stay tuned because I am headed down to Atlanta this week for the Scott's show to do a little shopping. I will try to take some pictures while I am there to show you what I find.
Sincerely,
Scarlett

Lilly and Pearl join the Scarlett Scales Antiques Team

Check out this very cool Victorian fish bowl stand. It is sporting its original red crusty paint. This is a piece I owned once before and I bought it back from my customer just recently. I don't typically do that but I always loved this piece.
After having it at the shop for about a week and talking about how cool it would be with fish in it. Beth of Lizzy Designs Jewelry showed up with these two beauties and we named them Lilly and Pearl. I had forgotten what a simple pleasure fish could be. I love them and it seems many of our customers do too. Thanks Lilly and Pearl for joining our team. We needed some official shop fish. As for their highrise well, lets just say their real estate may still be for sale at $295 but they are priceless.

I figure at worst case they would be pretty cute in a big old battery jar.... I am even considering doing that at my house. I have a neat battery jar I usually force bulbs in during the winter but it would be cute with some fish inside too.

Sincerely,
Scarlett
